About
Penrith Singer's are delighted to be holding a Come and Sing event on the 2nd of April 2022 with conductor Edward Taylor and accompanied by bass soloist Paul im Thurn and organist John Cooper Green. The piece that will be rehearsed and performed is John Stainer's oratorio The Crucifixion.
The Crucifixion was composed in 1887 and is scored for tenor and baritone soloists, mixed choir and organ. Stainer used J. S. Bach's Passion works as a model for his piece, both in narrative and composition.
Stainer's The Crucifixion has remained a favourite in churches due to it's sweet simplicity and exciting choruses.
Registration will be from 12.45 pm on the day and the rehearsal run from 1.30 to 4.30 pm. There will be breaks during the day and tea, coffee and hot cross buns will be provided before the performance.
The performance will start at 6 pm.
If you wish to join this event to sing, please book in advance stating your name, what voice part you will be singing, and whether you need a copy. Please do this by contacting our Chair, Rachel Carruthers, via email: ianraygolfsong@gmail.com.
