Edward Taylor

Edward Taylor trains and conducts the 80-strong choir. Edward is currently Assistant Organist at Carlisle Cathedral, training probationer Choristers and directing the Cathedral's Youth Choir as well as playing for daily services. Under his direction, the Carlisle Cathedral Youth Choir has featured on the BBC’s Songs of Praise, and on Radio 4’s Sunday Morning Worship.

Edward co-founded the Cathedral's Children’s Choir, Carlisle Cantate, who perform secular music regularly in venues across Cumbria. He is regularly engaged as a Choral Conductor, directing workshops and concerts for children, youth choirs and adults. He has conducted many large scale works spanning a very wide range from Zimbe! by Alexander L'Estrange, to Handel's Messiah. Edward has also composed and arranged music for many genres.

Prior to his post in Carlisle, Edward held Organ Scholarships at Portsmouth, Wakefield and Ely Cathedrals and Leeds Parish Church. He studied music at the University of Leeds and attended the Strasbourg Conservatoire in France for a year. Edward has appeared on several CDs, both as a chorister and as an accompanist and he has recently directed the choir in the making of their debut CD. He has organised choir tours to France and Spain. Edward took up the post of Musical Director to the Penrith Singers in September 2015.
