About

Penrith Singers will be performing the much-acclaimed oratorio: Elijah composed by Felix Mendelssohn.

Conducted by Edward Taylor and accompanied by organist Ian Hare and soloists Jessica Leary, Marion Ramsey, Philip O'Connor, and Adam Marsden.

Elijah tells the story of several key incidents in the life of the 9th century (BCE) prophet.

In Part 1 of the piece, God brings on a drought due to the loss of Israel’s faithlessness and their worship of false gods. Elijah proves to the people that his God is the true and only God, and rain returns to the parched land.

In Part 2, Elijah flees and begins a pilgrimage to Mount Horeb but becomes disheartened and his faith weakens. Elijah manages to overcome his doubts and his spirit and strength are restored by the appearance of God and he ascends into heaven.

The choir have performed this dramatic piece before and it has always been an exciting occasion.
